THE U3A CONTINGENT AT THE 'LEARNING EXPO'
SUCCESSFUL GRANT APPLICATIONS RE THE LEARNING REVOLUTION FUNDING
SEPTEMBER 2009 1. Swindon U3A towards the organisation of a Freshers’ Fair at the Punjabi Community Centre to increase awareness in the wider local community of the learning opportunities available to U3A members. 2. Northampton U3A towards a stand at the International Day for Older People’s exhibition to spread the word about U3A and later life learning possibilities with the aim of sowing a seed in people’s minds. OCTOBER 2009 1. Faringdon & District U3A to organise a Freshers’ Fair to make members of the public aware of the range of learning activities available to them through membership. 2. Haringey U3A to organise a series of events at the library to make a much wider section of the community aware of what U3A can offer. 3. Oxton, Prenton & District U3A to organise an open morning with speakers and displays. 4. Bath U3A to organise a one day major activities exhibition and open day to promote the U3A movement and explain the objectives of the U3A in Bath and the advantages of membership. NOVEMBER 2009 1. Yealm U3A to organise a Sustainable Energy Fair with talks on insulation, low energy lighting etc and plenty of information available for people wanting to know more about the benefits of U3A membership and Yealm U3A. JANUARY 2010 1. Saltash U3A to hold an event to publicise the U3A movement and to showcase what is on offer to members of Saltash U3A. 2. Roseland & District to hold an open day to provide an overview of its activities and provide information on future programmes. 3. Whitley Bay to hold an open session for local people to discover the activities on offer to them. 4. Blandford U3A to hold an open meeting to showcase local activities and inform people about the U3A movement. 5. Blackwater U3A to hold an Open Afternoon to increase awareness in the local community. FEBRUARY 2010 1. Shepway & District U3A to organise an open day in Folkestone where there is a large retired population but which is under-represented in terms of U3A membership, compared with neighbouring Hythe. It is hoped, through increased awareness of all that U3A membership can offer, to address the balance. 2. Keyworth & District U3A to hold a first birthday party to demonstrate to members of the public the great benefits of U3A membership and learning in later life. 3. Wantage & Grove U3A to hold an Open Day to increase awareness of U3A. 4. Weald U3A to hold a general meeting which will include a lecture on local history and provide an opportunity to inform people about the U3A movement and Weald U3A in particular. 5. Heritage Coast (Lyme Regis) U3A to hold a coffee morning with group displays to publicise U3A activities to the community. 6. Hucknall @ District U3A to hold a coffee morning with displays to publicise the benefits of U3A to the community and demonstrate the interest groups available as well as promoting the friendship and fellowship which members experience as part of the U3A movement. 7. Caterham U3A to hold an open morning to publicise the U3A and the available interest groups. 8. Hammersmith & Fulham U3A to hold an Open Day to increase awareness of U3A. 9. BudeU3A for a coffee morning to raise awareness of U3A MARCH 2010 1. Liphook U3A to organise an Open Afternoon at which all of its interest groups will be represented with demonstrations and opportunities to participate so that members of the local community really get to see what U3A is all about. 2. Reading U3A to organise a showcase day which will include a talk about U3A, taster sessions for a range of interest groups as well as displays and demonstrations. 3. Elmbridge U3A to organise an Open Day to increase awareness in the local community. 4. Waterlooville to organise a display at the library to promote awareness of U3A self-learning opportunities and advertise the wide variety of activity groups available to members. 5. Newcastle U3A to organise an open coffee morning with displays and demonstrations from some of the interest groups to increase knowledge of the U3A movement and showcase some of its activities. 6. Wallasey U3A to hold an open morning to show what interest groups are available and increase awareness. 7. Alnwick U3A to celebrate its 10th anniversary by arranging an event with space for displays, demonstrations and publicity materials which will be open and highly accessible to the general public. 8. Harwich Peninsula to organise an open coffee morning to increase awareness of U3A and its interest groups. 9. Fairford & District U3A to hold an open meeting to introduce people to U3A. 10. Stevenage U3A to organise an open afternoon to promote and publicise the opportunities U3A has to offer to the wider community. 11. Portsdown U3A to hold a Spring Fair with displays and demonstrations to make the public more aware of what is on offer. 12. Spilsby U3A to hold an open day to publicise U3A to the local community. 13. Prudhoe & District U3A to hold an Open-Friendship day with group presentations and displays. 14. Howden & District U3A to hold a U3A exhibition to raise awareness. 15. Sheffield U3A to organise meetings with representatives of community groups and then hold an open meeting. 16. Worthing U3A to hold an exhibition of its activities. 17. Boston & District U3A to hold an Open Day representing all its groups. 18. Brent U3A to hold an Open Meeting with talks and displays. 19. Buntingford U3A to arrange an Open Meeting to celebrate all that U3A can offer. 20. Plymouth U3A to print the publicity materials needed to participate in a local Information Fair. 21. Hull U3A to organise afternoon meetings to publicise informal adult learning for older people through U3A membership. 22. Thanet U3A to hold a coffee morning to provide information and display some of its interest groups. 23. Halewood U3A to hold an Information Session in the library to raise awareness of U3A nationally and Halewood U3A in particular. 24.
