u3a - Winter Watch

Submit photos and artwork to be included in a Winter themed gallery.

The days are cold and we are restricted from enjoying the usual seasonal activities that bring us warmth during this time of year. So we are calling on u3a members to share images of your local, personal wintery scenes and experiences. We want to see winter as you experience it!

This could be a photo of your Christmas decorations, of your favourite home-cooked winter food, a depiction of a festive family tradition... or anything you personally associate with the colder months. You can also send in images of your own artwork; drawings, paintings or any visual representation of your winter.

This is not a photography challenge, but a visual record of the season and this unprecedented time.

Please note you should not include any images showing people who are identifiable.

A selection will be published this page on a regular basis.

Please submit your images using this submission form

Thank you to everyone who has submitted images so far, please see below the most recent batch of images submitted.

'Day's End' by Richard Taylor of Leicester u3a

'Day's End' by Richard Taylor of Leicester u3a

Day's end. Walking with the sunset at my back I snapped some underlit clouds on my phone. Inspired by the work of Saskia Boelsums, I used extreme processing to create a dramatic. non-naturalistic effect. She does it much better!

'Inside' by Cath Simpson of Wigan u3a

'Inside' by Cath Simpson of Wigan u3a

My photographs are normally all outdoors - landscape and wildlife - but during lockdown, I took the chance to try some new subjects. Really enjoyed setting up and taking this shot of mince pies being dusted with icing sugar, with Christmas decorations in the background to add some extra warmth and atmosphere

'Frozen Lake' by Brian Moore of Belfast u3a

'Frozen Lake' by Brian Moore of Belfast u3a

I was informed that the lake at Hillsborough Forest Park had frozen over so I gathered my camera etc and went to see it for myself. It was amazing to see a lake nearly completely frozen and with all the debris on top. The swans and ducks were limited to a very small area

'Frozen Puddle' by Andrew Smith of North Cotswold u3a

'Brown Ash Keys' by Sue Salmon of North Cotswold u3a

'Brown Ash Keys' by Sue Salmon of North Cotswold u3a

Taken in January 2021 on a frosty, misty day. A big positive of "Lockdown" has been the extra time available to go out walking locally and to use the camera to look at the "little things" rather than just the big picture. I just love the hoar frost on the brown ash keys and empty stalks.

'Soap Bubble' by Robert Reeves of Camelot u3a

'Lake Bled' by Tessa Philips of Potters Bar u3a

'Lake Bled' by Tessa Philips of Potters Bar u3a

Several years ago we went to Lake Bled in Slovenia for a new year break and the walk around the lake in the snow was magical. These boats were available to ferry people to a little island in the middle of the lake. (Boatman photoshopped out)
