u3a - Winter Watch

As the weather gets colder and we are all restricted from enjoying the usual seasonal activities that keep us together during this time of year, we are asking u3a members to share images of their local, personal wintery views and experiences. You are invited to submit photos to be included in a Winter themed record.

We are looking for winter as you are experiencing it whether this is an image of your garden, a warming meal, a festive tradition or anything you personally associate with the colder months. This is not a photography challenge, but a visual record of the season and this unprecedented time. You may wish to submit a photo of your drawing of a winter scene for example or a Christmas display. It is up to you how you want to record your experiences of winter. Please note you should not include any photos of people.

Photos will be regularly published fortnightly this page.

Please submit your images using this formhttps://u3auk.wufoo.com/forms/winter-watch-photograph-project/

Season's Greetings!

Thank you to everyone who has submitted images so far, please see below the first selection of images, picked for the gallery by Susan Collini, Nature and Wellbeing subject advisor, and uploaded on 13/11/2020

'Uplifting' by Madeleine Sewterof Oundle & District u3a

Driving home through light rain I saw this really bright rainbow over the local fields and felt so uplifted by its beautiful colours that I stopped the car in order to take this photograph.

Taken from a friend's home in Orono, Maine some years ago at Christmas time.

This single snowflake was in the corner of the window and just begged to be enlarged to show its unique form

'Eerie and mysterious' by Gillian Davies of Pontarddulais u3a

'Eerie and mysterious' by Gillian Davies of Pontarddulais u3a

Taken from home at about 19.00hrs on a dark and foggy evening in South Wales. Typifies the lockdown feeling on such a night

'White Cathedral' by Alan of Salisbury & District u3a

'White Cathedral' by Alan of Salisbury & District u3a

Walking through Salisbury Cathedral's close one miserable day, I saw the cathedral was sunlit whilst the sky and surrounding area was dark and stormy. It was a remarkable sight.

'Clothesline' by Edward of Paisley & District u3a

I love the shape of the snow around the clothesline.

'Double Rainbow' by Marie of Ashford & District u3a

'Double Rainbow' by Marie of Ashford & District u3a

The sky turned dark and it began to rain. I was cycling along a road overshadowed by trees at that time. On leaving the trees behind, the sky brightened and I saw a beautiful double rainbow traversing a grey sky.

'Hastings Seafront' by Jack of Market Harborough u3a

'Hastings Seafront' by Jack of Market Harborough u3a

Photo taken whilst walking along the seafront at Hastings East Sussex. The light and clouds were creating a lovely atmosphere. I took it as the figure (facing away from camera) looked so small and insignificant.

'Approaching Storm, Askrigg' by Graham Duro of Belper & District u3a

'Approaching Storm, Askrigg' by Graham Duro of Belper & District u3a

We went on a walk around the village and when this snow storm approached we scuttled back to our digs, where we were snowed in for two days.

'Frosty Morning' by Chris of Limebrook u3a

Couldn't resist stopping to take in the view on my walk up the hill to work at Hyde Hall.

'Swan in Ice' by Lorraine of Charnwood u3a

'Swan in Ice' by Lorraine of Charnwood u3a

The perfect winter's day at Swithland Reservoir. Ice forming from the edges was not going to stop this swan from getting some food that people were throwing onto the ice. It used it's wings to make a passage through to the food.

'Winter Morning' by Barry Greenwood of Burnley u3a

'Winter Morning' by Barry Greenwood of Burnley u3a

An early morning walk in my local park presented me with this amazing sight. I was a professional photographer, but this picture was taken on my i Phone.

'Ready For Breakfast' by Bill Nicholson of Ashbourne u3a

'Ready For Breakfast' by Bill Nicholson of Ashbourne u3a

These sheep would line up in this way, as if posing for me, when I walked past their field on my morning walk.
On this occasion I thought the early morning sun made them look delightful.
In reality, of course, they were hoping that I was the farmer, arriving to deliver their breakfast.
